The Best Pet to Have!

You may think that a dog or a cat would be the best pet to have, but you obviously haven't
thought about tortoises.
Tortoises are adorable and so fun to play with! They love playing and one of their favorite things to do is express their love for you. Plus, they're quiet so you don't always have to tell them to shush.. like dogs. Tortoises live up to 50-100 years, but some tortoises may live longer, so they'll probably outlive you! If you plan on getting a tortoise, remember that you're going to have to provide a lifetime of care. Unlike dogs, cats and many other animals, tortoises don't have hair on their body.. meaning they don't shed! You will never have to bring your tortoise to the groomer! And once your tortoise gets to be an adult, you can teach them tricks that they will remember for years! Tortoises don't beg you for pets and attention, instead they're happy just to be where you are.

Tortoises are herbivores, meaning they don't eat meat. They love to eat leafy foods, fruits and vegetables, and sometimes even flowers, too. They are especially attracted to bright fruits like strawberries. Because they are herbivores, their diets do not include bugs like most other reptiles. So you don't have to worry about buying live insects to feed them! The older a tortoise gets, the less they need to eat, usually once every other day. Tortoises are very low maintenance, meaning that they don't require much to thrive. When tortoises are young, they can live in a terrarium inside, but make sure they have a heat lamp to keep them warm, because tortoises are cold blooded and need external heat to keep them warm. When they start to get older, they spend their days outside, and they love to sunbathe. Tortoises sleep during the day and are awake during night. So when you're sleeping, you might hear scritching and scratching, but don't worry, because it's probably just your tortoise. When tortoises are young, they enjoy baths in warm water. Daily baths when their young, can help their shell develop nicely. You don't have to give them daily baths, instead you can just spray their shells with warm water.

To summarize what I have discussed, if you are interested in getting a pet, tortoises are the perfect ones to get!
