Remember your first time on the older kids' playground, a bright and sunny day where you were excited to see what fun activities and equipment there were to play on with all your friends? Well, now as your moving through your 5th grade year, it is getting boring. You have already tried everything on it, and now you just play in the fields. There are a ton of insects that will bite you, there is nothing entertaining on it anymore, and everything on the playground has been there since our school was made.
First things first, the insects. Where to start? There are yellow jackets, fire ants, hornets and so many more. And for the people like me, who are allergic to insects, we always try to avoid these pests at all costs. One of my teacher cannot go outside to watch us because of how allergic she is to wasps, and yes, they will never go away, this is their habitat. One day in 2nd grade on a hot, sweaty day I saw a nice blue bench I go to wipe, what looked like mulch off the bench, but I hear a loud ‘BUZZZZ.’ I say to myself, “It is okay, probably just someone trying to annoy me.’’ NOPE! Not mulch! A huge clump of bees. I get a huge sting on my pinky finger. Thank goodness I was okay. Some kids do not mind any of these insects, yet it can get irritating. We need at least a worker who can go to the playground three times a month and put repellent in all the areas where the bugs are.
Second, every day in 2nd and 3rd grade there was something to look forward to. Now as we are in fifth grade, it is getting very boring. What if they made a third playground for 4th through 5th grade in the huge open space toward the end of the portables. There would be different fields for different sports such as volleyball, baseball, kickball, and so much more. Now there is something for us to look forward to when we would go outside. But what if you or one of your friends like to play on the playground and you are not really a sports person? There is a small but extremely fun playground to let out all your energy and creativity. That would be something to look forward to when it is recess time.
Unfortunately, there's a lot of rusty old equipment on the playground. Imagine you are on the slide, and as you are gripping onto the sides, you feel a sudden streak of pain shoot through your hand. As you hop off, you look at your hand and see that there is a line of blood. There are also some reddish-brown clumps in it. You look to see what might have cut you, and you see a big rusty nail sticking out from where you put your hand. You might have gotten your hand pinched on the old swings, but they replace them. Now there is no more hand pinching. What if they did things to all the old equipment and put brand new shining non-rusty new appliances.
In conclusion, the next time you go to recess look at the playground and see all the biting insects, how old the playground is, and how nothing is entertaining anymore think about, If they updated it, would you look forward to the next time out at recess?
