Birds that aren’t pets get to fly around the sky and have all of the space that they need if that bird is a species that does fly. Then there are birds that humans keep as pets. When humans keep birds as pets, they are kept in cages and, think about it, would you want to be put in a cage? Would you put a baby in a cage, or a small room by itself? That answer will most definitely be no.
They barely have any room to stretch and use the space they need. So that’s a really good reason to show that birds shouldn’t be anywhere in human’s homes unless it’s temporary. Did you know that leaving a bird in a cage over 4 hours can cause death? That's a really big responsibility to have.
You probably wouldn’t like having a bird as a pet anyway, because of how loud they are. They make big, loud noises like chirping, or banging on things in your home. You would have a hard time sleeping. Most birds nip or bite, and with their beaks; it can be very painful. Another thing is how they are with other animals. They aren’t a good pet to have with a cat or a dog which are the two most common pets in the USA. Here is something to know, pets or not, birds are not meant to be handled by a child under age six.
Exceptions to having a bird as a pet, would be like having chickens. Chickens are a great animal to have especially if you have a barn and want eggs. Another exception could be an injured bird. If you find a bird that was harmed on the road, you can turn it into a shelter to help it get better. Other than that, healthy, happy, small songbirds should not be taken in by humans. It’s not fun for the animal.
In conclusion, birds are very social animals; they are meant to be with others of their kind, when they spend years with humans and only humans. They will suffer from loneliness and stress of confinement.
