The Beautiful Game: Soccer

Soccer is a truly beautiful game. To play soccer, you must use only your feet. Depending on your age, there are 7, 9, or 11 players on the field at a time. Different clubs have different positions. I play for Strictly Soccer FC. Since I am U11, there are 9 players on the field at a time. The first rule of soccer is NO HANDS! If you us your hands, then the other team will be given a free kick. In fact, if you violate any rule, the other team will get a free kick, or even worse, if you violate a rule inside the box, it is a penalty kick (PK). Another rule is if the ball goes out of bounds, it will be a throw in, corner kick, or goal kick, depending on the area the ball goes out of bounds at. When you take a throw in, you must keep both feet down on the ground and the ball must go all the way behind your head or else the other team will get the throw in instead. A little trick I like to do on throw ins is when I throw the ball, I drag my back toe on the ground, so my foot doesn’t come off the ground. In soccer you must also use only your shoulder to fight for the ball. If you use any other part of your body, you will get a foul. And if you get a foul, the other team gets a free kick. Lastly if the ball is played to you while you are behind the last defender you are offsides. And if you are offsides then, you guessed it, the other team gets a free kick. Those are just some of the basic rules of soccer. Maybe you can try to play sometime.
