Wonderful Roaches

Roaches are mostly known for being useless, and not interesting. You would be surprised though! To start off, most roaches can survive about a week [7 days] without their head. Roaches can also survive underwater for several minutes; getting more specific, they can hold their breath for about forty minutes. Scientists recently discovered that some roaches can be trained by combining pleasant odors and then giving the roach a sweet treat. Let's crawl over to the next paragraph, shall we?

Another fact, there are more than 4,000 cockroach species worldwide! Roaches know when someone is sneaking up on them because they are sensitive to vibrations. If you did not know, roaches move very quickly. They rest for most of the day and night, but when they move, they scurry around at a speed of 3mph. Baby roaches move about the same speed as adult roaches. Some female roaches can reproduce without males. This is called parthenogenesis. I never would have thought that roaches could be so interesting!
