If I were an animal, I would be a three-toed sloth! Did you know there is also a two-toed sloth? But, today, I’m talking about the three-toed sloth. I picked the three-toed sloth, because I think they are the cutest animal on the planet and I just love them. They got their name, three-toed sloth, because they have three fingers on their hands and feet instead of two. A fun fact is that they can rotate their head 270 degrees around!
The three-toed sloths’ scientific name is Bradypus!
A tasty treat for a sloth is the hibiscus flower, which is kind of like chocolate to us! A hibiscus flower is a treat for a sloth. That is really cool and if I were a sloth I would be eating the hibiscus flower all day!
Speaking of chocolate, chocolate always makes me feel tired and when sloths get tired (which is a lot) they sleep upsidedown and rest their head on their chests, which is really cool! Some people may consider a sloth to be lazy, because they don’t move a lot and when they do move it is very, very slowly. However, they are NOT lazy. They do move around slowly in the trees, but when they get in the water they are actually pretty fast swimmers.
Sloths have a low metabolic rate, which just means it takes a long time to digest their food! It takes 30 days to digest one leaf to be exact. Since they have a slow digestion process, they only have to go to the bathroom once a week!
If you are as interested in sloths like I am, you can actually adopt a sloth! My Mom and Dad let me adopt a sloth! When you adopt a sloth, you get a hand- made sloth toy, a book, a full biography and history about your sloth, an adoption certificate, and a picture of your sloth! All you have to do is search up Slothconservation.org or World wildlife.org. Then, just press” Adopt a Sloth! And it’s that easy!
