I’m going to be researching a career that I like and I think I want to be. The career I chose was trucking.
The career is mainly used for delivering materials across N.A. and possibly Mexico and Canada. The amount of schooling required for this job is a high school diploma. No college degree is required. There is a special test you must take for vision, knowledge, and skills test with an operator's license.
CLD, physical requirements include, vision, color distinction, blood pressure, hearing, cardiovascular health, medications, urinalysis, and medical history
This career requires good communication, organization, discipline, trustworthiness, Navigation skills, proper driving skills, patience, and good mechanical knowledge. The hourly salary rate is $30.34 and the annual salary is $45k- $150k. The salary increases on a yearly basis. The least I could make in a year is $52,518 and the largest is $126,882 annually. With an associate degree I could make 62,000 at least. You have to stay on duty for 60 to 70 hour or 7 to 8 days on-duty limit. This career can be found in any city from up to 48 states. This job is also an outdoors and indoors job. This is an indoors job because you have to go inside warehouses and you’re inside your truck. The job is also outdoors because you have to lift heavy objects/ boxes in the truck.
The benefits of this job are health insurance, job security, salary, no degree, travel, freedom, and improving industry. Some not so great things about this job is you may have to stay long periods of time away from home, bad weather, difficult Cargos, and also you have the chance of running into accidents. The chances of advancement are low. The advancement would definitely require additional training. Yes trucking will have some additional duties and shifts that you must do in order to get the order out on time. There is no need for continuing education to hold this position but as an early class B truck driver it is possible. There are also no specific places for employment because this job can be found anywhere.
A typical day in my life would be me waking up at 3 am because my boss got me a load going to Nashville, Tennessee at Warehousing Pro. So, there I am packing all my clothes and starting up my truck and there I go. Now currently in Georgia after 3 hours I am in need of gas at Loves. So I put 200 gallons in both tanks. It was about 1000$ to get both full and get back on the road. Now after 6 more hours I was almost at my daily driving limit (11 hours) in Alabama. Traffic started to get really bad so my boss told me I could stop for the night and so then I went to bed.
