Karate is a fighting sport that does not involve throwing or grabbing your opponent's leg and taking them to the ground. This is a good sport for you to teach others or be taught for self-defense. In the type of karate that I have been taught (Uechi-Ryu) there is something called Katas. Katas are like a form or pattern of different moves. There are eight different katas such as Sanchin, Kanshiwa, Kanshu, Seichin, Seisan, Seirui, Kanchin, and Sanseirui. There are also many kinds of belts. The belt order for Uechi Ryu is white, junior yellow, yellow green, junior green, green blue, junior blue, junior brown, and then it depends how old you are. If you are under sixteen you would get junior black but if you are older, you would get full black. Karate is known for self-defense and counterattacking body movements. A fun fact about karate is that karate dates back to the 17th century. Another fun fact is that karate was invented in 1924 and the founder was Gichin Funakoshi.
