A new mosquito species has been established in Miami-Dade which is the first spot UF found this species in. This species is called the Culex Lactor. The species is native to Central and South America, and it has moved to the Sunshine State Florida.
This mosquito may look like any other mosquito but our scientists have said that it's a risk to human health. But it is still unclear.
According to our scientists here in Florida 17 non native species might be established in our state, only having 11 of these known in the past 2 decades and six discovered in the past 5 years. The invasions have ended but we can never know for sure.
Scientists have said that these minimal invasions may cause some sickness to our pets, So if this new mosquito is a huge deal or a minimal deal, it most likely wont be our last new mosquito.
