I like polar bears because they are beautiful and magnificent creatures. The weight of an average female polar bear can be from 400 to 700 pounds with a height of 8 feet! The male polar bear can weigh more than 1,700 pounds and can stand 7 to 9 feet tall! They can withstand cold temperatures that are below freezing. Their white fur also helps them blend in with their environment. They hunt seals and other land and sea animals, including humans! Unfortunately, the polar bear population is falling. There are currently about 26,000 polar bears worldwide. The population has dropped 30% since the 1950’s due to habitat loss, conflicts with people, pollution, and disease.
