The game of volleyball was first invented in 1895 by Willim G Morgan. This sport uses parts of three different sports. It uses a net similar to tennis, played with hands as handball, and the ball came from basketball.
The new and improved volleyball ball was introduced in the 1900s. This ball was significantly smaller and lighter than the original ball used, which helped sports gain some popularity.
In 1947 a FIVB was created (Federation Internationale de Volleyball). As many as 14 nations gathered to participate in the game of Volleyball.
However, it was not until 1964 that volleyball made its first Olympic debut at Tokyo. At that time, Japan won the first Volleyball Olympics among six teams.
The volleyball popularity kept growing throughout the years.
Serbia won the last Olympics 2022 in Women’s Volleyball. This team also took gold in 2018. The 2022 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship was a tough win for Serbia against Brazil. Serbian star player Tijana Boskovic was awarded MVP of the tournament.
We are excited to see what will happen at the next Championship and if Serbia will be able to keep their gold metal.
