Penguins
Penguins are my favorite animal and they have so many interesting facts. Besides the fact that they are cute, I love that they waddle around and are one of the most unique kinds of birds.
Penguins are aquatic flightless birds that live in Africa, New Zealand, Australia, and South America. There are 18 different species of penguins. Penguins have webbed feet and are expert swimmers. They can swim over 25 miles. Gentoo penguins are the fastest of all penguins swimming 23 miles per hour. The different species of penguins are between 12 to 45 inches tall and weighing up to 80 pounds.
Penguins' diet consists of fish with some crustaceans and cephalopods depending on where they live. When penguins have children, the daddy penguin holds the egg between his feet keeping it close to his body for warmth.
The mommy penguin goes out and looks for food to feed the daddy penguin and the baby. Penguins are typically black with white bellies . My favorite penguin, the emperor penguin, is yellow, black and white. Penguins typically are safe on land but in the water their biggest predators are leopard seals and killer whales.
The fact that I found really funny is that penguins poop every 20 minutes. If that was a baby, that would be a lot of diapers. Penguins can sleep, laying down or standing up. When they sleep standing, they tuck their beaks into their wings. That seems like that would hurt their neck but they find in comfortable. I hope you found these fun facts about penguins interesting.
