The importance of Respect

Today I will be sharing with you guys about the importance of respect. It is so important to respect people, such as your family and friends. Also, how you respect others, you will get the same respect back. My dad always says "respect is love and love is respect." The reason why I think he is right and why it is so important is because respect is an action and not just a word.

He also says to me and my brother: 'you should know that I love the things I do for you; I put a roof on your head. I cook food for you. I spend time with you; we do fun things together." My dad is right; respect is an action that people do for each other by him just saying "I love you" to me wouldn’t mean as much to me as him always being there for me.

My mom always teaches me that you have to earn respect by respecting others or showing them that you care by doing something nice. Like it says in the Bible, GOD told people "I will teach you how to fish and you will eat everyday or I will catch fish for you and you will only eat today."

The way that I understood this verse is that GOD had respect for his servants and people and asked them for their opinion.

We also have to accept people even if they are different from us or have different opinions about something. Respect is something that should come easily for people. Sometimes we may not get another chance to be nice or respectful to someone; so, just remember being respectful is a choice. And, when you think about them, let it be good memories and positive memories even if you think the person doesn’t deserve it.

Be a better friend, brother, sister or a friend. Don’t get caught up in the past and have that hate because something happened that it did go your way just continue building new memories and go forward learning on your mistakes and most importantly keep in mind the importance of respect.

There is a famous saying “Don’t judge a book by it’s cover”; they could be nasty people outside, but nice in the inside once you get to know them. I learned when I grew up to be nice to everyone. When I go to Publix on Christmas, there is always this man or women and they ring this bell. So, I put money In the cup; my mom said "it’s nice to give people money that are less fortunate than us." Years passed. I didn’t understand why we were giving money to this man.

Then, last year, he remembered me and said thank you to us for helping kids that don’t have any presents to open on Christmas Day. He told my mom that she is raising a respectful man that I always say good morning and Merry Christmas. In this situation, I learned a valuable lesson: that respect is donating for less fortunate.

In conclusion, I learned that respect comes in different forms. Parents provide for us, friends are there when you need someone to be by your side. Or, a stranger that just needs a helping hand that by your action you could change their life or just make their day better.

Thank you for the teacher to always making sure we succeed in life.
