The American Dream is alive and well! The American Dream to me is no matter where you are from, no matter what your skin color, no matter if you are female or male, anyone can become a success with challenging work and grit. Grit, I like that word. Having grit means that you have perseverance towards your goal, no matter what that goal may be.
As an African American female, I know that I may have obstacles that others may not. Does that mean that I won’t be successful? Absolutely not. I know that I have the passion and drive to overcome any barriers that stand in my way.
I have a dream to become a chef. My dream has been to become a chef ever since I was little, I wanted to be chef. Once I told my family this dream, my family stepped up. I thanked God for blessing me. My dad has taught me how to make many different dishes from an easy homemade baked macaroni and cheese to a more complex recipe of jumbo blackened shrimp with seasoned rice. My American Dream will be to become a chef, and this will happen! My parents have already decided that I will attend a high school with a culinary program. I already cook dinner for my family several nights a week. Some of their favorites are collard greens and tender ox tails, ribs, and cornbread, and my favorite, curry chicken.
In conclusion, the American Dream is here to stay. And may the people that try to bring us down. Always know that you're not alone, and you always have someone by your side, and there's always someone that cares. Long live the American Dream!
