The ocean is getting worse and worse everyday ,pollution, plastic and many dead creatures are dying because of the ocean water. Plastic is the deadliest thing in the ocean, the plastic hurts many many animals. 100 million animals die every year from plastic taking over the ocean, and 100 million and more animals die from the water being polluted. It is estimaited that 56% of the ocean is polluted and has plastic all over the place. 500 locations are known as the “Dead Zones'' because that's where marine animal life can't exist or live. The dead zones are usally called '' biological deserts” and they are called that because of human activity. Did you know that more than 80% of the ocean animals have not been discovered, so that means only less than 20% of the ocean has been discovered! Crazy right? One of the first creatures that was found in the ocean was an “Ocean Quahog '' which is a type of clam. Clams have been around for 510 million years. Red tide has affected the ocean since the early 1970s! Red tide happens when toxic algae goes around the ocean and kills fish. In 2022 many people stopped going to the beach because lots of fish were washed up on the beach because of the red tide. That's not normal because many people come to Florida for the hot weather and nice sandy beaches. If you're wondering how to help, just read the next paragraph!.

How to help the ocean

Buy a reusable shopping bag instead of getting plastic ones! When plastic bags get thrown away they break down into tiny toxic particles that contaminate the waterways and enter the food chain when animals accidentally ingest them. This makes some species go extinct and many animals die. Use less energy, turn off lights that you might not need and make sure you don’t have many plugs in. Practice driving a boat safely because many fish and turtles get stuck in the motor and die :(. Recycle!! Fish safely and make sure not to just kill the fishes! Another way to help is to conserve water, turn off the shower when you're not using it (like washing your body and shampooing), turn off the water when you're brushing your teeth and when you're washing the dishes turn off the water. Stay safe and help the ocean. When you buy your sunscreen, sunscreen lotion or sunscreen face stick, make sure to buy reef safe products. Non reef safe products can hurt the animals and the plants in the ocean. Stay safe and let's help the ocean together!! Spread the word.
