Have you ever sat down and wondered about the teddy bear's history? Well this may be for you. On September 14, 1902 in Onward, Mississippi, president Theodore Roosevelt and his friends went bear hunting, Theodore was looking around but he couldn't find a single bear, so his assistant Holt Collier, a born slave, and former confederate cavalryman cornered a bear and tied it to a tree and they told Theodore to shot it, but Theodore refused. This news spread like wildfire.

One day on February 15, 1903 a toy store owner and inventor Morris Michtom, a Russian and Jewish immigrant placed two stuffed bears on his shop window naming them teddy bears in his shop in Brooklyn, New York. The name “teddy” originally came from Theodore Roosevelt’s nickname “teddie,” that his parents would call him when he was younger. Michtom sent a small stuffed bear cub to the White house, asking President Theodore Roosevelt for permission to use his nickname for his invention. When Michtom heard that he had permission he produced the teddy bears, which became so popular that he and his wife soon founded the ideal toy company to produce more of these stuffed bears. Many kids love them and cuddle with them at night.
